Southwest says flights resumed after delays caused by ‘tech issues’

By Eric November 26, 2025

Delta Air Lines has announced a remarkable surge in summer travel bookings, reflecting a strong rebound in the airline industry as consumers regain confidence in air travel post-pandemic. The airline reported record-setting reservations, indicating a robust demand for both leisure and business travel. This increase can be attributed to various factors, including the easing of travel restrictions, a rise in consumer spending, and a growing desire for vacations after years of pandemic-related limitations. Delta’s Chief Executive Officer, Ed Bastian, highlighted that the airline is experiencing unprecedented demand, with ticket sales surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The summer season is projected to be particularly busy, with Delta preparing for a significant uptick in passenger numbers, which is expected to exceed 2019 figures.

In a separate but notable development, Air France and Airbus were acquitted in a trial concerning the tragic 2009 crash of Air France Flight 447, which resulted in the loss of all 228 passengers and crew members on board. The French court ruled that neither the airline nor the aircraft manufacturer was criminally liable for the crash, which was attributed to a series of technical failures and pilot errors. The verdict comes after years of legal proceedings and investigations into the incident, which was one of the deadliest in aviation history. Families of the victims expressed their disappointment with the ruling, as they had sought accountability for the tragedy. The case has reignited discussions about aviation safety and the complexities involved in determining liability in such catastrophic events.

Together, these stories highlight the current state of the airline industry, showcasing both its recovery and the ongoing challenges it faces. Delta’s soaring bookings signal a positive trend for air travel, while the acquittal of Air France and Airbus serves as a reminder of the industry’s past struggles with safety and accountability. As travelers prepare for a busy summer season, the focus on enhancing safety measures and learning from past incidents remains crucial for the future of aviation.
