Apple iOS 27: Everything we know so far

By Eric November 25, 2025

Apple has recently unveiled iOS 26, but tech enthusiasts are already buzzing about what’s next: iOS 27, set to launch in 2026. As is customary, Apple will likely showcase the new operating system at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which typically takes place in June. While there’s no official announcement yet, history suggests that WWDC 2026 will follow this pattern, and the iOS 27 release will coincide with the debut of new iPhones in September of the same year. This timeline has become a hallmark of Apple’s release strategy, providing users with a predictable schedule for major updates.

Though details on iOS 27 are sparse, notable insights have emerged from Mark Gurman, a well-respected journalist at Bloomberg. According to his latest newsletter, iOS 27 is expected to emphasize performance improvements over flashy new features. This approach aligns with Apple’s strategy to enhance the software capabilities of its devices, potentially preparing for future innovations, such as foldable iPhones. Among the rumored features are an AI health coach and AI web search capabilities, indicating a shift towards integrating artificial intelligence into the user experience. While the excitement for new functionalities is palpable, it seems that Apple is prioritizing a more refined and robust operating system that can support its evolving hardware landscape. As we await further announcements, the anticipation for iOS 27 continues to build, with Apple fans eager to see what the tech giant will unveil in the coming months.

The operating system for
iPhones
will get another big update in 2026, as it always does. It might be a ways off, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start talking about it now. Here is everything we know about iOS 27 so far.

iOS 27: Announcement and release dates
Apple always outlines the next iteration of iOS at its annual
Worldwide Developers Conference
, which is typically held in June of every year. As of right now, there is no reason to expect the routine to change with iOS 27. For now, we should assume
WWDC
will still be held in June of 2026, and that is where Apple will show iOS 27 off for the first time.
As for when it’ll come out, Apple has traditionally launched every new iOS iteration in the September following WWDC. It’s timed to come out alongside new iPhones. Again, there’s no reason to believe this will change at all in 2026, so operate as if you’ll have access to iOS 27 starting in September of 2026.
iOS 27: New features
As for what iOS 27 will bring to the table, there isn’t much info out there yet. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, a prominent Apple reporter, did share
some
tidbits in his latest
Power On newsletter
, though.
iOS 27 will not prioritize flashy new features, Gurman reports. Instead, it will focus on performance improvements, with some AI enhancements to go along with those. Apple reportedly wants to improve the software in order to pave the way for future hardware, such as a potential foldable device. There are two rumored AI features for iOS 27 at the moment: an AI health coach, and AI web search. Beyond that, we don’t know much.
However, we will surely hear more about iOS 27 over the next 10 months or so. Patience is key, folks.
