Google Assistant gets its death date

By Eric November 25, 2025

In a significant shift in its voice assistant strategy, Google has announced that Google Assistant will officially be phased out in favor of its new AI-powered assistant, Gemini. This transition marks a pivotal moment for users of Google’s ecosystem, as the company aims to streamline its services and enhance user experience through Gemini’s advanced capabilities. According to a recent update spotted by Android Authority on Google’s Android Auto support forum, users can expect Google Assistant to remain operational until March 2026. However, the exact date for its discontinuation has yet to be confirmed.

The transition to Gemini is not just a simple upgrade; it represents a broader strategic move by Google to leverage artificial intelligence more effectively across its platforms. The banner message on the support forum highlights that Gemini will be able to understand the same commands as Google Assistant, while also allowing users to communicate in a more natural and conversational manner. This shift is indicative of Google’s commitment to enhancing user interaction with technology, as Gemini is designed to provide a more intuitive and responsive experience. The integration of Gemini into various Google applications is already underway, suggesting that the company is keen to familiarize users with the new assistant well before the official retirement of Google Assistant.

As users prepare for this transition, they can anticipate not only a change in the interface but also improvements in privacy features and protections for minors, as outlined in Google’s announcement. While the move may be met with mixed reactions from long-time users of Google Assistant, the company is focusing on the potential benefits of Gemini, which promises to deliver a more sophisticated and user-friendly experience. As the deadline approaches, users are encouraged to explore what Gemini has to offer and to familiarize themselves with the upcoming changes that will shape their interactions with Google’s suite of products.

We’ve known Google Assistant is on its way out, but now we know the day of its impending doom — and it has just a few months to live.
Google officially announced this year that
it was swapping out Assistant
for its AI-powered Gemini, with all users eventually being forced to make the swap. That means no more Google Assistant on Android phones, Android Auto, Google TVs, and more.
Tech site
Android Authority spotted
that Google’s Android Auto
support forum
now has a banner message that Assistant will be available only through March 2026, though an exact date is not yet clear.
The banner message reads:
“Gemini is replacing Google Assistant on most mobile devices. Learn more about
what you can do with Gemini
,
privacy

protection of minors
and
availability
for supported devices, languages and territories. Gemini will understand the same commands as Google Assistant and also give you the option to speak naturally. Google Assistant is still available for use until March 2026.”
The change is part of a concerted effort from Google to push users toward Gemini. Its apps have increasingly added Gemini integration — for
better

or worse
— and, soon, it’ll totally kill off Assitant.
