Trump speaks with Chinese President Xi, calls wide-ranging discussion ‘very good’

By Eric November 25, 2025

In a recent post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump shared insights from his latest phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing the conversation as “very good.” The dialogue covered a range of critical topics, including the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the issue of fentanyl trafficking, and agricultural trade concerning soybeans and other farm products. Trump emphasized the positive developments in U.S.-China relations, highlighting a recent agreement beneficial to American farmers. He noted that this call was a continuation of their productive meeting in South Korea three weeks prior, where both leaders made significant strides in updating their agreements and fostering collaboration.

Trump also announced that President Xi has invited him to Beijing in April, an invitation he accepted, and he reciprocated by inviting Xi for a State Visit to the U.S. later in the year. The former president expressed his eagerness for continued communication, underscoring the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the two nations. However, the conversation also touched on sensitive geopolitical issues, with China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noting that Xi reiterated China’s position on Taiwan, emphasizing its return as a crucial element of the post-war international order. Despite Trump’s optimistic tone, the broader context of U.S.-China relations remains complex, marked by competition and adversarial dynamics, particularly in areas such as trade and military power.

While Trump praised Xi as a “great leader,” many in the U.S. adopt a more cautious stance toward China, viewing it as a rising global power that poses significant challenges to American interests. This nuanced relationship illustrates the delicate balance between cooperation and competition that characterizes U.S.-China interactions today. As both leaders prepare for upcoming state visits, the world watches closely to see how these discussions will influence future diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.

Our relationship with China is extremely strong! This call was a follow up to our highly successful meeting in South Korea, three weeks ago. Since then, there has been significant progress on both sides in keeping our agreements current and accurate. Now we can set our sights on the big picture,” the president noted in the post.
