NHS England responds to ADHD Taskforce final report
On November 6, 2025, an independent taskforce dedicated to addressing the multifaceted challenges surrounding attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) care released its final report, shedding light on the pressing issues faced by individuals with ADHD across various sectors, including health, education, employment, and the criminal justice system. This comprehensive report highlights the urgent need for a collaborative approach to ADHD care, as current services are reportedly under immense strain, struggling to meet the diverse needs of those affected by the condition. The taskforce, formed in response to growing concerns about the inadequacies of ADHD services, conducted an extensive assessment of existing frameworks and identified key areas for improvement.
The report underscores the importance of a cohesive strategy that integrates services across different sectors to provide holistic support for individuals with ADHD. For instance, it emphasizes the necessity for educational institutions to better accommodate students with ADHD, ensuring that they receive tailored resources and support to thrive academically. In the realm of employment, the report calls for initiatives that promote workplace inclusivity and understanding, allowing individuals with ADHD to harness their unique strengths while addressing potential challenges. Furthermore, the taskforce highlights the critical need for reform within the criminal justice system, where individuals with ADHD often face disproportionate challenges, including misdiagnosis and inadequate support.
Key recommendations from the report include enhancing training for professionals across all sectors to improve understanding and management of ADHD, as well as advocating for policy changes that prioritize ADHD care. The taskforce also suggests the establishment of a national ADHD strategy, which would facilitate better coordination among services and ensure that individuals receive timely and appropriate support throughout their lives. By addressing these systemic issues, the report aims to foster a more inclusive society where individuals with ADHD can thrive, ultimately reducing the stigma associated with the condition and improving overall quality of life.
