NHS England responds to ADHD Taskforce final report

By Eric November 21, 2025

On November 6, 2025, an independent taskforce dedicated to addressing the multifaceted challenges associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) care released its final report, shedding light on the pressing issues faced by individuals with ADHD across various sectors. The ADHD Taskforce, formed to evaluate and improve the existing services, conducted a comprehensive assessment of how ADHD care is managed within health, education, employment, and criminal justice systems. The report highlights the systemic pressures that these cross-sector services are currently under, exacerbated by rising demand and insufficient resources.

One of the key findings of the report is the significant gap in effective ADHD management, which often leads to detrimental outcomes for those affected. For instance, the taskforce pointed out that educational institutions frequently lack adequate training and resources to support students with ADHD, resulting in lower academic performance and increased dropout rates. In the employment sector, adults with ADHD often face discrimination and misunderstanding, which can hinder their career advancement and job satisfaction. Additionally, the report emphasizes that individuals with ADHD are overrepresented in the criminal justice system, indicating a critical need for early intervention and tailored support services to prevent these issues from escalating.

The ADHD Taskforce’s final report serves as a clarion call for a coordinated national strategy to enhance ADHD care across all sectors. It urges policymakers to prioritize ADHD awareness and training, improve access to diagnostic and treatment services, and foster collaboration among various sectors to create a more supportive environment for individuals with ADHD. By addressing these systemic challenges, the taskforce aims to ensure that those living with ADHD receive the comprehensive care and support they need to thrive in society. This report is not just a reflection of the current state of ADHD services but also a roadmap for future improvements that could significantly impact the lives of millions affected by this condition.
