The great YouTube TV-ESPN dispute is finally, mercifully over

By Eric November 18, 2025

YouTube TV subscribers can breathe a sigh of relief as the streaming service has successfully resolved its financial dispute with Disney, restoring access to a range of Disney channels, including ESPN and ABC. This resolution comes after a couple of weeks of uncertainty for subscribers who were left without key programming, particularly impacting sports fans who rely on ESPN for college football and other major events. The deal was officially announced on Friday night, and subscribers received direct communication from YouTube TV, affirming the return of Disney content and the restoration of previously recorded shows in their libraries. The email reassured users that their personal preferences and recommendations remained intact, allowing for a seamless transition back to normal viewing.

In addition to the reinstatement of Disney channels, Google has extended a $20 credit to affected YouTube TV customers as a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience caused during the outage. This credit is still available for those who experienced the disruption, offering a small compensation for the wait. For many subscribers, including avid college football fans, the absence of ESPN was particularly felt, as a significant number of high-stakes college games air on these networks. With the football season in full swing, the timely resolution of this dispute is welcomed news, allowing fans to catch their favorite teams without missing a beat. As one subscriber humorously noted, while they are grateful for the $20 credit, they hope such disruptions do not recur in the future, especially during critical sports seasons.

YouTube TV
was finally made whole again to start the weekend.
After a financial dispute between
Google
and
Disney
that lasted a couple of weeks, Disney properties (including the ESPN family of networks) returned to the streaming cable service, as a deal between the two parties was announced on Friday night. As a YouTube TV subscriber, I got an email directly from the service letting me know, which read, in part:
“We’re happy to share that we’ve reached a deal with Disney to bring their content back to YouTube TV,” the email said. “You now have access to Disney channels, including ABC and ESPN, and any recordings that were previously in your Library. Your personal preferences and recommendations are just as you left them.”

The email also clarified that the
$20 credit
Google offered to YouTube TV customers affected by the lack of Disney channels is still valid for anyone who wants to claim it. In other words, if you’re patient and can live without Disney products for a couple of weeks, you’ve just earned $20 off your next bill with minimal effort on your part. As a big college football fan, though, I and others definitely felt the outage. A large majority of big-time college games air on ESPN networks and ABC.
I’ll gladly take the $20. Just don’t let this happen again during the next football season.
