Your favorite smart lights: TP-Link is a Mashable Readers Choice Award winner
In the latest Smart Home Readers’ Choice survey conducted by Mashable, smart lighting emerged as a popular entry point for consumers looking to upgrade their homes with technology. Among the various brands surveyed, TP-Link, particularly its Kasa line of smart lights, stood out as a favorite among readers for its affordability and user-friendly features. Despite some concerns regarding security vulnerabilities in its routers and accusations of predatory pricing, TP-Link has managed to secure a solid reputation in the smart lighting segment, competing closely with premium brands like Philips Hue.
The survey asked participants to rate their smart lighting products on various factors, including longevity, automation capabilities, and compatibility with smart assistants. TP-Link (Kasa) received commendable scores, achieving an 8.1 likelihood to recommend rating and an impressive 8.6 overall satisfaction score. Users praised the brand for its practicality, highlighting how they could easily control multiple lights through voice commands with Alexa or Google Home. One user shared their experience of outfitting their entire business with Kasa products, emphasizing the convenience of managing lighting remotely, especially during busy moments. Another respondent noted the seamless integration of TP-Link lights within their Google Home ecosystem, which allowed for automated settings like turning lights on and off at sunset and sunrise.
The affordability of TP-Link’s smart lighting products is a significant draw for consumers, with a four-pack of color-changing bulbs priced at just $26.99. Many users expressed relief at finding a budget-friendly option that did not compromise on functionality, especially after experiencing frustrations with more expensive brands. This combination of cost-effectiveness, ease of use, and positive user experiences has solidified TP-Link’s position in the smart lighting market, making it a top choice for those looking to enhance their home environments without breaking the bank. As smart home technology continues to evolve, TP-Link’s Kasa line exemplifies how accessible and user-friendly solutions can empower consumers to embrace the benefits of smart living.

Testimony from TP-Link (Kasa) users
A couple of survey respondents mentioned that they have multiple TP-Link lights in their homes and businesses. One wrote, “We have our whole business lit up with Kasa plugs and light switches so we can control remotely as well as through Alexa. Really handy for when you have your hands full, or when you just got into bed and remember you forgot to turn off some lights. I can just tell Alexa to turn off all lights, and it is done without me getting out of bed.”
And another said, “I have a bunch of these bulbs throughout the interior and exterior of the house. The exterior ones had issues, but after upgrading to a mesh router, I haven’t had any since. I can set them up for specific times, on and off at sunset/sunrise, and they have the ability to change colors. They integrate into my Google Home system without any problems.”
Compared to Philips Hue and other premium brands, TP-Link lights are more budget-friendly, with a
