Jeff Bezos will be co-CEO of AI startup Project Prometheus

By Eric November 17, 2025

Jeff Bezos is embarking on an exciting new venture as he takes on the role of co-CEO at Project Prometheus, a startup focused on harnessing artificial intelligence to enhance manufacturing processes across various industries, including computing, automobiles, and aerospace. This initiative marks a significant shift for Bezos, who has not held a formal operational role since stepping down as CEO of Amazon in 2021. With an impressive $6.2 billion in funding—partially contributed by Bezos himself—Project Prometheus is already one of the most well-capitalized early-stage startups globally. The company is co-founded by Vik Bajaj, a physicist and chemist with a notable background in tech innovation, having previously worked at Google X and led Alphabet’s health tech venture, Verily.

The startup has quickly assembled a formidable team of nearly 100 employees, drawing talent from leading AI organizations such as OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta. This diverse expertise positions Project Prometheus to potentially revolutionize manufacturing through advanced AI applications. While the company’s specific plans remain under wraps, the combination of Bezos’s entrepreneurial acumen and Bajaj’s technological expertise suggests a promising trajectory for innovation in this space. As Bezos continues to explore new frontiers, including his interests in space with Blue Origin, Project Prometheus could emerge as a pivotal player in the future of AI-driven manufacturing, reflecting a broader trend of tech giants investing in transformative technologies that promise to shape industries for years to come.

Jeff Bezos is getting a new job. He’ll reportedly become co-CEO of Project Prometheus, a new startup that he’s partly funding. The company’s exact plans are still unknown, but its focus is on AI that could improve manufacturing in fields including computing, automobiles, and aerospace.

The New York Times
reports
that Project Prometheus is already one of the better funded early-stage start-ups in the world, with $6.2 billion in investment, in part from Bezos himself. In addition to financing the venture, he’ll help run the company together with co-founder Vik Bajaj. He’s a physicist and chemist who once worked at Google X, the company’s experimental “moonshot factory,” before running
health tech company Verily
, an Alphabet-owned venture spun out of that division.

Project Prometheus reportedly has nearly 100 employees already, including former staff from OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta. With Bezos now among them, this will be his first formal operational role at a company since he
stepped down as Amazon CEO
in 2021, though since then he’s taken a keen interest in his SpaceX rival Blue Origin, which last week completed the
first successful landing
of its New Glenn booster.
