Will quantum be bigger than AI?

By Eric November 17, 2025

In recent years, the emergence of highly complex technologies, particularly in the realm of quantum computing, has captured the attention of both the tech industry and academic circles alike. Quantum computing, which leverages the principles of quantum mechanics, promises to revolutionize computing by performing calculations at speeds and efficiencies far beyond what traditional computers can achieve. Unlike classical bits that represent either a 0 or a 1, quantum bits, or qubits, can exist in multiple states simultaneously due to a property known as superposition. This allows quantum computers to process vast amounts of data at unprecedented speeds, opening the door to solving complex problems that are currently intractable for conventional computers.

One of the most significant implications of quantum computing is its potential impact on fields such as cryptography, pharmaceuticals, and artificial intelligence. For instance, in cryptography, quantum computers could potentially break encryption methods that secure sensitive information today, prompting a reevaluation of cybersecurity measures. In the pharmaceutical industry, quantum computing could accelerate drug discovery by simulating molecular interactions that classical computers struggle to model accurately. Tech giants like Google, IBM, and Microsoft are heavily investing in quantum research, with Google famously claiming to have achieved “quantum supremacy” in 2019, demonstrating that their quantum computer could perform a specific task faster than the most advanced supercomputers.

As we stand on the brink of this technological revolution, the challenges remain significant. Quantum computers are still in their infancy, with issues related to error rates and qubit stability posing hurdles to practical applications. However, the rapid pace of advancements in quantum technologies suggests that we may soon see their integration into everyday computing tasks. As researchers continue to unlock the potential of quantum computing, the technology is set to transform not only how we process information but also how we approach some of the world’s most pressing challenges, making it an exciting frontier in the evolution of technology.

The highly complex technology is increasingly being tipped to transform computing.
