DHS arrests dozens of illegal immigrants within 24 hours of launching New Orleans operation
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a significant crackdown on criminal illegal immigrants in New Orleans through a newly launched initiative called Operation Catahoula Crunch. Within just 24 hours of the operation’s commencement, DHS officials reported making dozens of arrests, targeting individuals with serious criminal backgrounds. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin emphasized the need for Americans to live without the fear of violent criminals, stating that the operation aims to remove those who pose a threat to public safety. The arrested individuals, who hail from countries including Vietnam, Honduras, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic, have been accused of a range of serious offenses, including homicide, kidnapping, child abuse, robbery, and sexual assault.
Among those arrested during the operation was Binh Van To, a Vietnamese national with a history of heinous crimes, including kidnapping and homicide. Another Vietnamese national, Hung Ngoc Tran, was apprehended for sexual assault and child-related offenses. The operation also led to the detention of several Hondurans, such as Carlos Roberto Guardado-Ramirez, who has a record of domestic abuse and child endangerment, and Jose Raul Lopez-Serrano, who has faced charges related to drug possession and disturbance of peace. Additionally, Luis Fernando Maldonado-Velasquez from Guatemala was arrested for immigration violations and theft, while Freddy Caldero-Caraballo from the Dominican Republic faced charges related to drug possession and public intoxication.
McLaughlin criticized sanctuary policies that she claims endanger American communities by allowing criminal illegal immigrants to remain on the streets, thus necessitating the risky work of law enforcement to apprehend them. She reaffirmed the DHS’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of American families, contrasting their efforts with those of sanctuary politicians who, in her view, fail to uphold public safety. This operation reflects a broader federal initiative to address illegal immigration and criminal activity, showcasing the administration’s focus on law enforcement and public safety amid ongoing debates about immigration policy in the United States.
