War Secretary Pete Hegseth spends Thanksgiving with US troops in Latin America: ‘We are grateful for you’

By Eric November 30, 2025

In a heartfelt display of gratitude, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and his wife, Jennifer, chose to spend Thanksgiving aboard Navy vessels in Latin America, serving meals to sailors involved in the Southern Spear mission, which aims to combat narco-terror networks. In a video shared on X, Hegseth, a veteran himself, reflected on his own experiences during deployments, emphasizing his thoughts of family and traditional holiday gatherings. He expressed his desire to bring a taste of home to those who were unable to celebrate with their loved ones, stating, “These folks won’t be. We’re going to bring them maybe a turkey and a little bit of cheer.” This initiative not only highlights the sacrifices made by service members but also underscores the importance of community and support during the holidays.

During their visit, the Hegseths toured the USS Gerald R. Ford and the USS Winston S. Churchill, where Hegseth addressed the crews with a message of appreciation from both the President and the nation. He acknowledged the recent attack on two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., offering prayers for their recovery and honoring their bravery. “Whether it’s in our nation’s capital… or whether it’s in our nation’s hemisphere, out at sea, interdicting cartels, defending the American people — we are grateful for you,” he stated. The Secretary’s visit culminated in a prayer for all deployed forces, echoing sentiments from George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation, reinforcing the deep respect and gratitude felt for those serving far from home during the holiday season.
