Kelly Clarkson Joins Spotify’s Billions Club With ‘Since U Been Gone’

By Eric November 30, 2025

Kelly Clarkson has officially joined the prestigious Spotify Billions Club, a significant milestone for the pop superstar and talk show host. Her iconic anthem “Since U Been Gone” has become her first song to surpass 1 billion streams on the platform. Released as the second single from her critically acclaimed 2004 album *Breakaway*, the track not only solidified Clarkson’s status in the music industry but also resonated with fans worldwide, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2005. The song, which was crafted by renowned producers Max Martin and Dr. Luke, won a Grammy Award in 2006 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and garnered two MTV Video Music Awards in 2005 for Best Female Video and Best Pop Video.

Reflecting on the journey of “Since U Been Gone,” Clarkson has shared insights about the song’s creation and its impact on her career. In a 2020 interview with Apple Music, she noted that while the recording process was challenging due to personal circumstances, the song’s empowering message and its ability to connect with listeners made it worthwhile. She fondly recalled the music video shoot as a highlight, where she had the opportunity to unleash her frustrations and “trash an apartment” as part of her performance. This cathartic experience contributed to the song’s enduring popularity and its status as a cornerstone of Clarkson’s discography.

While “Since U Been Gone” stands alone in the Billions Club, Clarkson’s other hits are not far behind in the streaming race. Tracks like “Underneath the Tree,” which has approximately 870 million streams, and “Because of You” and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” each exceeding 800 million streams, showcase her continued relevance and appeal in the music industry. Clarkson’s ability to create relatable and powerful music has not only earned her accolades but also a dedicated fanbase that continues to support her work. As she celebrates this latest achievement, it is clear that Kelly Clarkson’s influence in pop music remains strong and impactful.
