GPs managed record number of online requests in October

By Eric November 30, 2025

In October 2025, a remarkable surge in online GP requests was recorded, with over 8 million submissions, marking a significant increase of 21% from September and an impressive 68% rise compared to the same month last year. This trend reflects the ongoing efforts by the NHS and the government to streamline access to healthcare services, making it easier for patients to connect with their general practitioners. The push for digital solutions in healthcare has been particularly vital as the demand for medical services continues to grow, and traditional methods of booking appointments can often be cumbersome and time-consuming.

The increase in online requests can be attributed to several factors, including the NHS’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure and the growing familiarity of patients with online services. With approximately one in three GP practices now offering online consultations, patients are increasingly opting for the convenience of managing their healthcare from home. This shift not only alleviates pressure on phone lines but also allows for more efficient use of healthcare resources. Furthermore, the rise in digital engagement is indicative of a broader trend towards telehealth solutions, which have gained traction since the COVID-19 pandemic, as patients seek safer and more accessible ways to receive medical advice and treatment.

The government has emphasized the importance of inclusivity in digital health initiatives, aiming to bridge the gap for those who may not have access to technology or feel comfortable using online services. Overall, the remarkable growth in online GP requests signifies a positive shift towards a more efficient and patient-centered healthcare system, paving the way for future innovations in how we access medical care.

More than 8 million people submitted their GP request online during October 2025, up more than a fifth (21%) on the previous month and up more than two-thirds (68%) on last year. The new figures come as the NHS and government strive to make contacting your practice as easy as possible. Around 1 in 3 […]
