NYT Pips hints, answers for November 27, 2025

By Eric November 28, 2025

**Unlocking the Fun of Pips: Your Guide to the Latest NYT Game**

In August 2025, the New York Times introduced “Pips,” a fresh and innovative take on the classic game of dominoes. Designed for solo play, Pips offers a unique challenge that has quickly captured the attention of puzzle enthusiasts and casual gamers alike. Unlike traditional dominoes, where players match tiles, Pips incorporates color-coded conditions that dictate how tiles must be arranged. This adds a strategic layer to the gameplay, making it not just about matching but also about meeting specific numerical criteria. Whether you are a seasoned puzzle solver or a newcomer looking for a daily brain teaser, Pips promises to become your next favorite gaming habit.

The mechanics of Pips are straightforward yet engaging. Players place tiles either vertically or horizontally, adhering to various color-coded conditions that dictate the arrangement of pips. For example, if a space is marked with a single number, all pips in that area must sum to that number. Other conditions include “Equal,” where all domino halves must match, and “Less than” or “Greater than,” which require players to think critically about the relationships between the tiles. The game encourages logical thinking and problem-solving, making it an excellent exercise for the mind. However, if players find themselves stuck, Pips currently offers a rather abrupt solution: revealing the entire puzzle, which forces them to move on to the next level. To help, we’ve compiled hints and strategies for each difficulty level that will guide players through the challenges without giving everything away.

For players who need a little extra help, our hints for the easy, medium, and hard difficulty levels are designed to assist you in navigating the game. For instance, in the easy category, if you encounter a space requiring the total to be 3, the solution would be to place a 0-5 tile horizontally. As you progress to medium and hard levels, the challenges become more complex, requiring players to think critically about how to achieve specific sums or equality among tiles. With hints for various conditions like “Greater than” and “Equal,” players can gradually build their skills and confidence. Whether you’re playing during your morning coffee or unwinding after a long day, Pips provides a delightful way to engage your mind and enjoy a moment of fun. So, gather your tiles, and let the puzzle-solving begin!

Welcome to your guide to Pips, the latest game in the
New York Times
catalogue.
Released in August 2025, the
Pips
puts a unique spin on dominoes, creating a fun single-player experience that could become your next daily gaming habit.
Currently, if you’re stuck, the game only offers to reveal the entire puzzle, forcing you to move onto the next difficulty level and start over. However, we have you covered! Below are piecemeal answers that will serve as hints so that you can find your way through each difficulty level.
How to play Pips
If you’ve ever played dominoes, you’ll have a passing familiarity for how
Pips
is played. As we’ve shared in our previous hints stories for Pips, the tiles, like dominoes, are placed vertically or horizontally and connect with each other. The main difference between a traditional game of dominoes and Pips is the color-coded conditions you have to address. The touching tiles don’t necessarily have to match.

The conditions you have to meet are specific to the color-coded spaces. For example, if it provides a single number, every side of a tile in that space must add up to the number provided. It is possible – and common – for only half a tile to be within a color-coded space.
Here are common examples you’ll run into across the difficulty levels:
Number
: All the pips in this space must add up to the number.
Equal
: Every domino half in this space must be the same number of pips.
Not Equal
: Every domino half in this space must have a completely different number of pips.
Less than
: Every domino half in this space must add up to less than the number.
Greater than:
Every domino half in this space must add up to more than the number.
If an area does not have any color coding, it means there are no conditions on the portions of dominoes within those spaces.
