Black Friday is most popular with Gen Z, even as the holiday loses its shine, new survey finds

For Gen Z, the allure of Black Friday deals is amplified by their comfort with technology and online shopping platforms, allowing them to easily compare prices and find the best bargains. Additionally, social media plays a pivotal role in their shopping decisions, with platforms like TikTok and Instagram heavily influencing their purchasing choices. For instance, many Gen Z shoppers report discovering products through influencer recommendations or viral trends, making Black Friday a prime opportunity for them to capitalize on these insights. In contrast, older generations often prioritize the holiday season’s spirit and may prefer the experience of in-store shopping during the Christmas rush, seeking the joy of last-minute gift purchases and the festive atmosphere that accompanies it.

The findings of the AT&T survey not only shed light on the evolving dynamics of consumer behavior but also underscore the importance of retailers adapting their strategies to cater to this younger demographic.
