One of the best Assassins Creed games might get a remake very soon

By Eric November 24, 2025

Ubisoft, the renowned French gaming company, has sparked excitement among fans with its recent financial earnings report, which hints at the development of an unannounced title set to launch by March 31, 2026. This revelation has led to speculation that the game in question is a remake of the beloved 2013 title, **Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag**. Widely celebrated as one of the best entries in the Assassin’s Creed series, Black Flag is known for its engaging pirate-themed gameplay and expansive open world, making it a prime candidate for a modern overhaul. Insider Gaming, a reliable source for gaming news, has been tracking this potential remake for some time, suggesting that Ubisoft is ready to set sail on the high seas once again.

The anticipated remake is expected to feature significant visual enhancements and quality-of-life improvements that are standard in modern remakes. However, reports indicate that Ubisoft may take a bold new direction by infusing RPG elements into the gameplay, akin to recent titles in the series like *Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla*. This shift could offer a fresh experience for both seasoned players and newcomers alike. Interestingly, there are rumors that the remake might minimize or eliminate the modern-day narrative segments that have traditionally been a staple of the franchise. This change reflects Ubisoft’s recent trend of downplaying contemporary storylines, which some fans have found disappointing. Despite the lack of official confirmation, the prospect of revisiting the swashbuckling adventures of Black Flag has generated considerable buzz, leaving fans eager for more details about this potential return to pirate life.

Ubisoft
is potentially ready to sail the high seas again.
The French gaming giant published its
latest financial earnings
this week, and while there’s lots of interesting business-y stuff going on in there, one minor detail stands out: the presence of an unannounced title that is set to launch by March 31, 2026 at the latest. Insider Gaming reports that this is going to be a remake of
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
, originally released in 2013 and pretty much universally regarded as one of the top titles in the long-running series.

Insider Gaming has been on this beat for a while now, having published
previous exclusive reports
about this remake. Aside from general visual and quality-of-life upgrades you would expect from a remake, it’s apparently also going to take
Black Flag
in a more RPG-like direction, a la recent entries like
Shadows
. One unfortunate (depending on your perspective) rumor is that it’s going to minimize or even do away entirely with the modern-day frame story sections of
Black Flag
. Once a major part of
Assassin’s Creed
, Ubisoft has been shying away from those elements for a while now, seemingly unable to or uninterested in pushing them forward narratively.
Of course, this is not officially confirmed yet, so it’s possible it winds up not happening. Still, it would be nice to return to the piratical shenanigans of
Black Flag
.
