Deepfake ‘nudify’ site fined £55,000 over lack of age checks

By Eric November 23, 2025

In a significant move aimed at enhancing online safety, the regulatory body has announced the initiation of new investigations into 20 pornographic websites suspected of violating online safety regulations. This decision underscores the growing concern over the potential risks associated with adult content on the internet, particularly regarding the protection of minors and the enforcement of existing safety standards. The investigations are part of a broader effort to ensure that all online platforms adhere to regulations designed to safeguard users, especially vulnerable populations such as children and adolescents.

The regulator’s actions come in the wake of increasing scrutiny over how adult content is managed online. Recent studies have highlighted the alarming prevalence of underage users accessing pornographic material, raising questions about the effectiveness of current age verification methods and content moderation practices. For example, many of the websites under investigation may not have adequate systems in place to prevent minors from accessing explicit content, which is a key requirement of online safety laws. By targeting these specific sites, the regulator aims to hold them accountable and push for stricter compliance with regulations that protect users from potential harm.

This proactive approach reflects a growing recognition of the need for enhanced oversight in the digital landscape, where the rapid proliferation of online content often outpaces regulatory frameworks. The investigations could lead to significant changes in how adult sites operate, including the implementation of more robust age verification processes and clearer guidelines for content moderation. As the regulator continues its efforts to promote online safety, the outcomes of these investigations may set important precedents for the adult entertainment industry and influence broader discussions about digital safety standards across various online platforms.

The regulator said it had also opened new investigations into 20 porn sites over suspected online safety breaches.
