NHS England responds to ADHD Taskforce final report

By Eric November 22, 2025

On November 6, 2025, an independent taskforce dedicated to addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) released its comprehensive final report. This report provides a critical assessment of ADHD services spanning various sectors, including health, education, employment, and the criminal justice system. The findings highlight the immense pressures these cross-sector services are currently under, exacerbated by rising demand and insufficient resources to meet the needs of those affected by ADHD. The taskforce’s work underscores the importance of a cohesive approach to ADHD care, emphasizing the need for collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that individuals receive the support they require.

The report reveals several key issues impacting ADHD care across sectors. In healthcare, for instance, long waiting times for diagnosis and treatment are prevalent, leading to significant delays in accessing necessary interventions. In the educational context, schools often struggle to provide adequate support for students with ADHD, resulting in poor academic outcomes and increased behavioral issues. Employment services also face challenges, as individuals with ADHD frequently encounter barriers to job retention and career advancement due to a lack of understanding and accommodations from employers. Furthermore, the criminal justice system is highlighted as a critical area where individuals with ADHD are disproportionately represented, often leading to negative outcomes due to untreated symptoms. The report calls for urgent reforms to improve service delivery, including increased funding, better training for professionals, and the implementation of integrated care models that prioritize the unique needs of individuals with ADHD.

In response to these findings, the ADHD Taskforce has proposed a series of actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing the overall care landscape for those with ADHD. These include the establishment of a national ADHD strategy that fosters collaboration among health, education, and employment sectors, as well as the development of training programs for educators and employers to better understand ADHD and implement supportive practices. The taskforce also advocates for the creation of a centralized database to track service provision and outcomes, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and that individuals receive timely and appropriate care. As the conversation around ADHD continues to evolve, this report serves as a crucial step toward addressing the systemic challenges faced by individuals with ADHD and ensuring they have access to the support they need to thrive in all areas of life.
