Ukraine’s Zelenskyy receives ‘draft plan’ from US and expects to talk with Trump in coming days – Europe live

By Eric November 20, 2025

In a recent development amidst the ongoing conflict, Ukraine has received the remains of 1,000 individuals from Russia, which Moscow claims are Ukrainian soldiers killed in action. This repatriation marks a notable instance of cooperation between the two nations, who have been embroiled in a protracted and violent struggle since 2014. The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War confirmed the transfer via social media, highlighting the somber nature of this exchange. While the context of war often breeds hostility and mistrust, the return of these remains underscores a rare opportunity for dialogue and humanitarian action amid the turmoil.

Ukrainian officials have expressed a willingness to support any “meaningful proposals capable of bringing true peace closer,” signaling a readiness to engage in discussions that could lead to a resolution of the conflict. This statement reflects the broader sentiment within Ukraine’s leadership to seek pathways to peace while navigating the complexities of ongoing military engagements. The repatriation of the deceased serves not only as an act of respect for the fallen but also as a potential stepping stone towards more significant negotiations. Such exchanges could pave the way for future dialogues aimed at addressing the humanitarian crises resulting from the war, which has devastated communities on both sides.

This repatriation effort comes at a time when the international community is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine. The conflict has resulted in significant loss of life and displacement, with millions affected by the ongoing violence. As Ukraine continues to assert its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the return of these remains may also serve to galvanize public support for diplomatic efforts. It remains to be seen whether this act of cooperation will lead to further negotiations or if it will be overshadowed by the ongoing hostilities. Nonetheless, the exchange signifies a glimmer of hope for humanitarian considerations in a time of strife, reminding the world that even amidst conflict, there exists the potential for compassion and understanding.
