NHS England responds to ADHD Taskforce final report

By Eric November 19, 2025

On November 6, 2025, an independent taskforce dedicated to addressing the myriad challenges surrounding attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) care released its comprehensive final report. This critical document evaluates the state of services across various sectors, including health, education, employment, and the criminal justice system, shedding light on the pressing issues faced by individuals with ADHD and their families. The ADHD Taskforce highlights that these services are under considerable strain, exacerbated by a lack of resources, insufficient training for professionals, and systemic inefficiencies that leave many individuals without the support they need.

The report reveals that individuals with ADHD often encounter significant barriers in accessing appropriate care and support, which can lead to detrimental outcomes in their personal and professional lives. For instance, in the education sector, students with ADHD frequently struggle with academic performance and behavioral issues, leading to a higher likelihood of disciplinary action and exclusion from mainstream education. In the employment arena, adults with ADHD may face discrimination, inadequate workplace accommodations, and a lack of understanding from employers, which can hinder their career advancement. Moreover, the report notes that the criminal justice system often fails to recognize and address the unique needs of individuals with ADHD, resulting in higher rates of incarceration and recidivism among this population.

To address these pressing challenges, the ADHD Taskforce’s report calls for a coordinated, cross-sector approach to ADHD care that emphasizes early intervention, increased funding, and comprehensive training for professionals across all relevant fields. It advocates for the implementation of standardized guidelines for ADHD assessment and treatment, improved access to resources for families, and the development of supportive environments in schools and workplaces. By fostering collaboration among healthcare providers, educators, employers, and the justice system, the taskforce aims to create a more inclusive and effective support network for individuals with ADHD, ultimately improving their quality of life and societal outcomes. This report serves as a crucial step toward transforming ADHD care and ensuring that those affected receive the comprehensive support they deserve.
