DHS launching massive immigration operation in Louisiana, Mississippi: ‘Swamp Sweep’

By Eric November 19, 2025

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is set to launch a significant immigration enforcement operation named “Swamp Sweep,” deploying approximately 250 federal border agents to Louisiana and Mississippi. This extensive initiative, which aims to apprehend nearly 5,000 individuals over a two-month period, is scheduled to commence on December 1. According to internal documents and sources familiar with the operation, the focus will primarily be on southeastern Louisiana, particularly areas around New Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and St. Tammany parishes, with operations extending north toward Baton Rouge. Additionally, while specifics on Mississippi’s involvement remain sparse, similar enforcement efforts are planned for the state.

This operation marks one of the largest single-state deployments of immigration authorities under the Trump administration, reflecting a broader strategy to intensify immigration enforcement across the nation. Federal agents are expected to arrive in New Orleans soon to set up logistics before dispersing into local communities. The initiative aligns with the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to bolster immigration control, following recent deployments of federal officers to major cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Charlotte. Tom Homan, Trump’s Border Czar, hinted at further operations in New York City, indicating that this crackdown may expand even more in the coming weeks.

Both Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, Republicans who have historically supported Trump’s policies, have not publicly commented on the operation as of yet. This silence comes despite their previous endorsements of federal initiatives aimed at curbing illegal immigration and enhancing law enforcement efforts in their states. The “Swamp Sweep” operation is positioned within the broader context of the Trump administration’s immigration strategy, which has faced criticism and support across the political spectrum. As the initiative approaches its launch, it raises questions about its potential impact on local communities and the ongoing national debate over immigration policy.

Spokespeople for Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves — both Republicans who have previously backed President Donald Trump and his agenda — also did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
Reeves announced in August that he “approved the deployment of approximately 200

to Washington, D.C., to support President Trump’s effort to return law and order to our nation’s capital.”
In May, Landry similarly touted a partnership with “the federal government to crack down on criminal illegal aliens in the great State of Louisiana.”

The expansion into Louisiana and Mississippi comes as the Trump administration accelerates its nationwide immigration enforcement strategy. Federal immigration officers have already been sent to major cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and, most recently, Charlotte, North Carolina.
