Philips Hue is a Readers Choice Award winner: Why readers like the smart light brand

By Eric November 17, 2025

In a recent survey conducted by Mashable, readers shared their experiences and preferences regarding smart home products, with a particular focus on smart lighting. Smart lighting has emerged as a popular entry point for those looking to embrace smart home technology, primarily due to its affordability and ease of integration. Among the various brands available, Philips Hue stood out as a favorite, earning a Readers’ Choice Award. Many users, including the article’s author, praised Philips Hue for its reliability and versatility, making it a go-to option for enhancing home ambiance.

The survey asked participants to rate their smart lighting experiences across several criteria, including bulb longevity, automation capabilities, and compatibility with smart assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant. Philips Hue received an impressive overall rating, with users highlighting its user-friendly design and seamless integration into daily routines. One respondent noted the brand’s effectiveness with voice commands, providing a high satisfaction score of 9 out of 10. However, the survey also revealed a common concern: the cost of Philips Hue products. With single color-changing bulbs starting at $24.99, many users acknowledged that while the quality is excellent, the price point can be a deterrent when compared to more budget-friendly alternatives.

Overall, Philips Hue maintained a solid reputation among users, achieving an 8.1 rating for the likelihood to recommend, tying with TP-Link, another recognized brand in the smart lighting space. While the premium pricing may limit some potential customers, the positive feedback underscores the brand’s commitment to quality and innovation. As smart home technology continues to evolve, Philips Hue remains a strong contender, appealing to those looking to elevate their home lighting experience with smart solutions.
