Iran says it could rejoin US nuclear talks if treated with ‘dignity and respect’

By Eric November 17, 2025

In a recent interview with the Guardian, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed the country’s willingness to re-engage in nuclear negotiations with the United States, emphasizing that any discussions must be conducted with “dignity and respect.” This statement comes in the wake of a breakdown in talks following a series of bombings at nuclear sites, which have heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington. Araghchi revealed that intermediaries have reached out with requests to restart negotiations that had previously stalled under the Trump administration, highlighting a potential shift in diplomatic dynamics.

Araghchi’s remarks underscore Iran’s commitment to diplomacy as the sole viable path forward, amidst ongoing concerns about its nuclear program. He reiterated that Iran does not possess any undeclared nuclear sites, aiming to alleviate fears surrounding its nuclear ambitions. However, he also indicated that Tehran is currently unable to allow the United Nations’ nuclear inspectorate to access the bombed sites due to security concerns, which adds another layer of complexity to the negotiations. As the international community watches closely, the potential reopening of dialogues could pave the way for a renewed focus on nuclear non-proliferation and regional stability, although significant hurdles remain to be addressed.

This development is particularly notable given the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East and the ongoing scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear activities. The possibility of renewed talks signals a cautious optimism, yet the insistence on dignity and respect from Tehran suggests that any future negotiations will require careful diplomatic handling to ensure constructive engagement. As both sides navigate this sensitive landscape, the stakes are high not only for Iran and the U.S. but also for global security and the future of nuclear non-proliferation efforts.
