The great YouTube TV-ESPN dispute is finally, mercifully over

By Eric November 16, 2025

In a significant development for streaming enthusiasts, YouTube TV has successfully resolved its financial dispute with Disney, reinstating access to popular Disney properties, including the ESPN family of networks. This resolution was confirmed on Friday night, marking the end of a couple of weeks during which subscribers were deprived of essential channels. An official email from YouTube TV announced the good news, reassuring users that they could now enjoy Disney channels such as ABC and ESPN, along with any previously recorded content in their libraries. This return is particularly timely for fans of college football, as many key games are broadcast on these networks.

The dispute had left many subscribers frustrated, especially those who rely on YouTube TV for their sports fix. College football fans, in particular, felt the impact of the outage, as major games typically air on ESPN and ABC. The email from YouTube TV also reminded customers of the $20 credit offered to those affected by the absence of Disney channels, encouraging them to claim this benefit as a small consolation for the disruption. For viewers who can tolerate a brief interruption in service, this credit represents a silver lining, effectively reducing their upcoming bill. As a dedicated college football fan, I can certainly appreciate the relief of having access to ESPN again, and I hope for a smoother experience in the future, especially with the next football season on the horizon.

YouTube TV
was finally made whole again to start the weekend.
After a financial dispute between
Google
and
Disney
that lasted a couple of weeks, Disney properties (including the ESPN family of networks) returned to the streaming cable service, as a deal between the two parties was announced on Friday night. As a YouTube TV subscriber, I got an email directly from the service letting me know, which read, in part:
“We’re happy to share that we’ve reached a deal with Disney to bring their content back to YouTube TV,” the email said. “You now have access to Disney channels, including ABC and ESPN, and any recordings that were previously in your Library. Your personal preferences and recommendations are just as you left them.”

The email also clarified that the
$20 credit
Google offered to YouTube TV customers affected by the lack of Disney channels is still valid for anyone who wants to claim it. In other words, if you’re patient and can live without Disney products for a couple of weeks, you’ve just earned $20 off your next bill with minimal effort on your part. As a big college football fan, though, I and others definitely felt the outage. A large majority of big-time college games air on ESPN networks and ABC.
I’ll gladly take the $20. Just don’t let this happen again during the next football season.
