YouTube TV and Disney Reach Deal Ending Two-Week Blackout of ESPN, ABC

By Eric November 15, 2025

In a significant development for sports and entertainment fans, YouTube TV subscribers will once again have access to ESPN, ABC, and other Disney-owned networks following the resolution of a standoff between Google and Disney. The two media giants announced a multiyear agreement on pricing and terms on Friday, effectively reinstating Disney’s channels to the streaming platform. This comes after a period of tension that saw Disney’s networks go dark on YouTube TV just before midnight ET on October 30, leaving many subscribers frustrated and without access to popular programming, including live sports and major network shows.

The negotiation breakdown had initially stemmed from disagreements over carriage fees, which are the amounts that streaming services pay networks to carry their content. With the rise of streaming services, such disputes have become increasingly common as companies navigate the complexities of content distribution and pricing in a rapidly evolving media landscape. Disney’s networks are crucial for YouTube TV, especially during the sports season, as they include key channels for major events like the NFL and NBA, along with popular shows and news programming. The return of these channels not only restores a vital part of YouTube TV’s offerings but also highlights the importance of collaboration in the competitive streaming market.

This agreement comes at a time when streaming services are vying for viewer loyalty and attempting to differentiate themselves in a crowded marketplace. By resolving the impasse, both Google and Disney can focus on enhancing their services and providing subscribers with the content they crave. For YouTube TV, the reinstatement of Disney’s channels is expected to boost subscriber retention and attract new customers who prioritize access to live sports and family-friendly programming. As the media landscape continues to shift, this deal underscores the necessity for major players to find common ground to ensure that viewers have access to a diverse array of content.
