Eating too much of these foods is driving the rise in type 2 diabetes, study says

A recent study has revealed a concerning link between the consumption of refined wheat and rice products and the rising incidence of type 2 diabetes globally. The research, which models data up to 2018, highlights how diets high in refined carbohydrates—such as white bread, pasta, and white rice—combined with a significant lack of whole grains, are contributing to the alarming increase in diabetes cases worldwide. This trend is particularly alarming as type 2 diabetes is a major risk factor for various health complications, including heart disease, kidney failure, and vision loss.

The study underscores the importance of dietary choices in managing and preventing type 2 diabetes. Refined grains are stripped of their fiber and essential nutrients during processing, leading to a rapid spike in blood sugar levels when consumed.
