NHS England responds to ADHD Taskforce final report
On November 6, 2025, the ADHD Taskforce released its final report, shedding light on the multifaceted challenges faced by individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) across various sectors, including health, education, employment, and the criminal justice system. Established to address the urgent needs of ADHD care, the taskforce conducted a comprehensive assessment of existing services, revealing a landscape strained by inadequate resources and systemic inefficiencies. The report underscores the critical need for a coordinated approach that integrates services across sectors to provide holistic support for those affected by ADHD.
One of the key findings of the report highlights the significant pressures on cross-sector services, which are often ill-equipped to meet the growing demand for ADHD care. For instance, in the healthcare sector, long waiting times for diagnosis and treatment were cited as major barriers, preventing timely intervention for individuals who might benefit from early support. In educational settings, teachers reported feeling overwhelmed and underprepared to accommodate students with ADHD, leading to a lack of tailored learning experiences that could help these students thrive. Furthermore, the report pointed out that individuals with ADHD are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system, indicating a critical need for interventions that address the underlying issues rather than punitive measures.
The ADHD Taskforce’s report calls for a transformative approach to ADHD care, recommending the development of a national strategy that emphasizes collaboration among health, educational, and criminal justice stakeholders. By fostering partnerships and sharing best practices, the report advocates for a system that prioritizes early diagnosis, individualized support, and ongoing education for both professionals and the public. As ADHD awareness continues to grow, the findings of the taskforce serve as a crucial step toward ensuring that individuals with ADHD receive the comprehensive care and support they deserve, ultimately improving their quality of life and enabling them to contribute positively to society.
