NHS England responds to ADHD Taskforce final report
On November 6, 2025, an independent taskforce released its comprehensive final report aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) throughout the UK. The ADHD Taskforce was established to evaluate and enhance the quality of care and services available to those affected by ADHD, spanning various sectors including health, education, employment, and the criminal justice system. The report highlights the significant pressures these services are currently experiencing, exacerbated by increasing demand and insufficient resources.
The findings of the report reveal a stark picture of ADHD care, indicating that many individuals are struggling to access timely and effective support. For example, in the healthcare sector, long waiting times for assessments and treatments have been cited as a major barrier, leading to a lack of proper diagnosis and management for those with ADHD. In education, the report emphasizes the need for tailored support systems that can accommodate the unique learning styles of students with ADHD, suggesting that many educational institutions are ill-equipped to provide the necessary resources. Furthermore, the taskforce draws attention to the alarming connection between ADHD and the criminal justice system, where individuals with ADHD are disproportionately represented, often due to a lack of appropriate intervention and support early in life.
To address these pressing issues, the report calls for a coordinated national strategy that prioritizes ADHD care across all sectors. It advocates for increased funding, better training for professionals, and the development of integrated care pathways that ensure individuals with ADHD can receive the comprehensive support they need. The taskforce’s recommendations aim to foster a more inclusive society where individuals with ADHD can thrive, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and continuous support throughout an individual’s life. As the report is disseminated, it is expected to spark vital discussions among policymakers, educators, and healthcare providers, ultimately driving systemic changes that will improve the lives of those living with ADHD in the UK.
