Trump pressed on whether he ordered DOJ to target James Comey, John Bolton, Letitia James

By Eric November 3, 2025

In a recent interview with CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell on “60 Minutes,” former President Donald Trump addressed the indictments of several prominent figures, including former FBI Director James Comey, former National Security Advisor John Bolton, and New York State Attorney General Letitia James. When asked if he had directed the Justice Department to target these individuals, Trump emphatically denied any involvement, asserting that their alleged corruption warranted scrutiny from the Justice Department. “No. You don’t have to instruct ’em because they were so dirty, they were so crooked, they were so corrupt,” he claimed, suggesting that the actions taken against them were justified and automatic due to their conduct.

Trump’s remarks come amid an ongoing narrative surrounding his own legal challenges, as he himself has faced multiple indictments. During the interview, he pointed out his own situation, stating, “You know who got indicted? The man you’re looking at. I got indicted. And I was innocent.” This reflects his broader stance of portraying himself as a victim of a political witch hunt, a theme he has consistently emphasized in his communications, including on his social media platform, Truth Social. In a post highlighted during the interview, Trump criticized Comey, Schiff, and James, claiming they were guilty and calling for action against them, while also lamenting his own impeachment and indictments as unjust. His rhetoric underscores a persistent narrative of political retribution, which he claims is aimed at undermining his credibility and reputation.

The interview not only highlights Trump’s defiance in the face of legal challenges but also raises questions about the politicization of the Justice Department under his administration. Critics argue that Trump’s comments could indicate an attempt to influence public perception and undermine the integrity of ongoing investigations. As the legal landscape continues to evolve, the implications of Trump’s statements and the responses from those he targets will likely remain a focal point in the ongoing discourse surrounding accountability and justice in American politics.
