Trump dances with Malaysian performers as he kicks off Asia tour in lively fashion

By Eric October 27, 2025

President Donald Trump kicked off his Asia tour with a lively welcome in Malaysia, where he showcased his dance moves alongside local performers. This vibrant greeting, dubbed the “TRUMP DANCE MALAYSIA VERSION” by the White House, was orchestrated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, setting a positive tone for Trump’s five-day visit to the region. The trip is significant as it includes meetings with newly-elected Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo and Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, highlighting the strategic diplomatic engagements Trump is pursuing in Asia.

One of the key achievements during Trump’s tour was the oversight of a peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, signed at the annual summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The agreement, which aims to resolve a long-standing conflict that has displaced over 260,000 people, requires Thailand to release 18 Cambodian soldiers currently held captive and mandates both nations to begin the process of removing heavy weaponry from their shared border. Trump expressed pride in facilitating this historic agreement, stating, “We did something that a lot of people said couldn’t be done.” The Cambodian Prime Minister, Hun Manet, hailed the day as historic, while his Thai counterpart, Anutin Charnvirakul, emphasized that the accord lays the groundwork for enduring peace in the region. In recognition of Trump’s role in brokering this deal, Cambodia announced plans to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Beyond peace negotiations, Trump’s visit also focused on strengthening economic ties. He secured separate agreements with both Cambodia and Thailand, as well as trade deals with Malaysia involving critical minerals. These steps align with the U.S. strategy to diversify its supply chains and reduce dependence on China, especially in light of recent restrictions imposed by Beijing on key technology components. The combination of diplomatic and economic initiatives during this Asia tour underscores Trump’s commitment to enhancing U.S. influence in Southeast Asia while fostering stability and cooperation in the region.
